"Good morning ma." said Zaharah as she sip up the caffeine.
"Good morning Zaharah. It has been quite sometimes you have not join us for breakfast and I'm sort of miss you." exclaimed Ana as she touches Zaharah's hand and look lovingly towards her. Zaharah smile faintly and replied." I'm so sorry ma..for my poor attitude. I don't really meant to be rude to you. I'm just feeling frail. I'm wish I'm as strong as my mother...but I'm not."
"You have done well Zaharah. You have made Adam eventually come back to us and fulfil his father's dream. You even accepted Adam's mistakes by taking care of Aden just like your very own. Where can you find such remarkable woman nowadays?' replied Ana. Zaharah shakes her head. "I still got long way to go ma. Many more lessons need to be gain." said Zaharah with a smile of comfort after upon hearing Ana's remarks. Just then Zaki climb down the stairs and headed straight towards the door as he was about to leave for work.
"Zaki why don't you join us for breakfast before you go." cried his mother. Zaharah look at the table clothe as she tries to avoid any eye contact with Zaki. Zaki look at Zaharah and he felt it was best for him to leave early. "It's okay ma...I'll just have some coffee at the cafeteria." replied Zaki.
"Your ma is right...do come and join us." said Zaharah however she still had her eyes on the table clothe. Ana was surprised by Zaharah's sudden changes. "This is something new." thought Ana to herself as she smile. Zaki was surprised too by Zaharah's gesture.
"Alright." he replied and he sat by the table opposite Zaharah. "Thank you Zaharah." he said as he looks at her. Zaharah looks up ....straight into his eyes and smile.
"Good...I guess both of you have decides to put all the setback asides." cried Ana tearfully as she was praying hard for these to happen. Family came together as a whole .....in whatever situation they were stuck in.
"For Adam's sake." replied Zaharah." I can't do this on my own...I need all of you."
"We will always be there for you Zaharah. You can count on us." replied Zaki and he gave her a smile of hope and determination.
"Well, I need to make few phonecalls at the ophanage. So I hope you don't mind me leaving the table." cried Ana as she stood up and headed towards the reading room.
"Zaki...about yesterday, I feel stupid. I'm..I'm sorry." utter Zaharah as she looks at her coffee.
Zaki knew how she must had felt ."Zaharah when that feeling of anger and revenge begins to play around in your mind like a maze or a puzzle....we tends to get lost and confused. I've been through that and in the end I'm still at the losing side."replied Zaki as he look at her with emphaty. Zaharah looks straight into his hazel brown eyes. She was speechless.
"Don't fall like me Zaharah...you will gain nothing at all." continues Zaki. "Together we shall make Adam feel alive again." said Zaki as he smile. Zaharah nodded as she watch Zaki stood up and leave the table heading towards the door.
"By the way, what time will you be visiting Adam?' asked Zaki before he steps out from the house."I can fetch you if you want?"
"It's okay...right after breakfast. Anyway thanks for your offer." replied Zaharah as she begins to feel at ease with Zaki's presense.
Zaharah went up on the elavator and walk straight along the corridor to visit Adam. However from outside the glass panel, she saw Adam had already sat up on the bed but his back is facing the door. As she was about to step in she felt she was tugged gently by someone. It was the nurse that was incharge of taking care of Adam's medication and report that day.
"So sorry, Zaharah. He refused any visitor for today. Not only that, he also not complient with his medication and he was not keen on going through for his physio therapy." said the nurse much to Zaharah's dismay. Zaharah steps out of the room as the nurse went on to carry on with her task. "No. This can never happen. I will not let him give up just like that." thought Zaharah to herself. As she saw the nurses were so engross with their duties, Zaharah went ahead into Adam's room. She walk slowly towards him and stand by his side. Adam stared intensely at the white wall. How Zaharah wish she could just hold him in just few moment so that she could take all the sorrowfullness and heal his shattered heart.
"What are you doing here?" asked Adam scornfully much too Zaharah's surprised.
"What's the point of you hanging on to me now...I can't be any use to you anymore Zaharah." continued Adam with sacarsm in his voice. Zaharah could not believe those hurtful words that he had spoken. Zaharah eyes begins to tear up and she was trying to find words to respond to that remarks."It's that how you feel about yourself Adam? You should at least be thankful....that you're still breathing. You still got your four limbs to move around. And you still do have people around you who loves you and wants to stick around with you." exclaimed Zaharah as she was not going to give up on Adam...not ever. And she knew at whatever cost....whatever hurtful words that Adam bound to spill...she's willing to take it.
"I've lost my eye Zaharah...! Might as well I should have been dead." yelled Adam.
"But you have got your chance to live. To see things not with your sight but with your heart. Adam where has all your courage and spirit gone too?" replied Zaharah as she stood closer towards Adam.
"Just leave me alone...okay. Just go." cried Adam softly as he looks sadly towards Zaharah.
"Do you really want me to go? " asked Zaharah as she reaches out her hand and touch his face.
Adam close his eyes as he begins to picture her in his thoughts. "I love you Adam...and nothing going to change the way how I feel about you. So let me help you...please." said Zaharah and she sat beside him, hold him close in her arms. Adam feel so much tenderness and love that Zaharah had for him and he feel soothe and comfort being in her arms again.
"I really miss seeing your face." utter Adam.
"See through my heart then Adam...use that senses now." exclaimed Zaharah. Zaharah was right after all, it seems his blindness had indeed open up his mind on many other things which he could not ever imagined.
Adam wipe the tears on his face."You're right Zaharah, I can even tell the different types of toothpaste or shampoo just by using my sense of smell." said Adam as he grinned. Zaharah smile by his funny remarks and shakes her head. "No Adam there is more than that." exclaimed Zaharah and she let Adam hold her in his arms. Zaharah stayed until late afternoon, attending to his medication and other needs. However during lunch time, Adam insists on feeding himself. "Zaharah, please let me do this." said Adam as he look at her. Zaharah let go of his spoon and gently push the spoon onto Adam's finger. Adam took it and began scopping the rice of his plate. Zaharah knew Adam was frustrated and angry with himself but he was determined to do this on his own. One thing about Adam which Zaharah had always admired is his calmness. He managed to overcome his weakness and eventually he begins to accept it. Soon after lunch, Zaharah and Adam decides to have a walk at the hospital park which was situated at the roof top off the building. The place where Zaharah usually take her break there. Zaharah was amazed by Adam skill which he had picked up in just few weeks, he was able to use the white cane without any difficulties. Another thing about Adam, just like what his late father and Zaki had said earlier, Adam is one special person. He's able to learn things gaining the skills and knowledge in just short period of time.
"This place is quite windy. It reminds me of the verandah of our home back in the village." said Adam as he begins sipping the air. Zaharah turn to look at Adam as he close his eyes and Zaharah knew he must have being homesick cause Zaharah miss their home too. All those beautiful memories which she and Adam had spent together during the early part of their marrige.
"This garden must be very well-maintained and beautiful. I can sense sweet smell of flowers and I believed the grass has just been cut." exclaimed Adam as he make his wondering looks and frown his eyebrows. Deep in his thoughts, how he wished he could just pick up his paint brush and paint all those beautiful images on his white canvas.
"You're right Adam, there do have some roses and fresh orchids too. And also the grass has just been cut." replied Zaharah as she look lovingly towards Adam. Deep in her thought she knew Adam must have been feeling such a great lost. She can sense that he must have miss seeing all this amazing creation and projects them on his painting and sketches.
Zaki decides to leave his office earlier that afternoon. After handing over his task to his assistance, he took his car keys and headed towards his car. He removed his tie and unbutton the top button of his shirt and then he thought to himself.
"There's something can be done about Adam and I'm so sure about that." He swept his fringe off his brow which had eventually started to grow longer. And then he start his car engine and speed off heading towards the hospital. After parking his car, he walk straight towards the nurses and ask one of the nurse for the doctor who was incharged of Adam. The nurse call the doctor and soon enough he had ask Zaki to meet him at his clinic.
"I'm so sorry if I have taken your time Doctor Darren." said Zaki as he took a sit inside the clinic.
"It's okay. I know you are very concerned about your brother's condition. As you can see that he has been progressing very well much to my amazement. His fracture bones will eventually heals and his muscle reflexes has been stronger ever since he starts his physio-therapy. One such cases which I rarely come across. It was only today that I heard from the nurses he refuse to abid for any treatment as he was still in shocked due to his eyes condition." explained the doctor.
"That's my main concern now doctor, his eyes. Is there no other way that can be done to make him see again?" asked Zaki.
"Actually there is, but Adam need to go through several test and once his test has been approved then he will be proceed for a tedious eye surgery. This procedure is call retina nerve transplant. From my recent scanning, his cornea still can be save but what Adam need is a new retina. During the procedure, the eye specialist need to insert a very fine microscopic needle through his cornea in order to reach to his nerve and repair the damaged. And futhermore, it was not easy to fine a suitable donor as the waiting list is pretty long." continue the doctor again.
"So there is such procedure?" asked Zaki again to ensure his hope. The doctor nodded.
"I know it won't be hundred percent but I'm willing to let Adam to go ahead with this. We can always try." said Zaki as he was very determined to get his brother's sight again.
"Thankfully his cornea has heal, it was only his retina. However the surgery can't be done here. It has to be perform at the National Eye Centre and this centre is located futher ahead from our city. But if you are still interested, all you need to do is fill up this form. And once they got a suitable donor for Adam, we will contact you." explained the doctor futher.
Zaki took the form and carefully begins to fill it up. After he had done with it, the doctor ask the nurse to process the form and sent it out to the National Eye Centre. Zaki was hopefull.
"Thank you so much doctor for your help." said Zaki as he shakes the doctor's hand.
"It has always been my pleasure." replied the doctor.
Zaki walks out of the clinic and plan to head towards Adam's ward. Zaharah and Adam were already in the room. After Adam took his medication, soon enough he begins to feel tired and fall asleep. Zaharah intends to stay by Adam until late evening. Then Zaharah saw Zaki was standing at the glass panel, gesturing her to meet him outside just for a while.
"I need to go out for a while for a cup of coffee okay." whispered Zaharah towards Adam. Adam nodded his head and fall fast asleep again.
"Why don't you come in?" asked Zaharah as she walk out from the room to meet up with Zaki.
"I just feel that I'm not ready to face him yet." replied Zaki as he look at Adam through the glass panel. "This guilt has definately cut through me so deep. It really pains me to see him like this. No matter how many thousand times if I were to seek for his forgiveness...I just feel that it won't be the same anymore." continue Zaki as he look sadly towards Zaharah.
"If you really meant that every word which you have just said....things will always be like before. "Trust me...believe in yourself." said Zaharah and she smile.
"Yah...you' re right. Adam is one lucky guy...to have you." said Zaki.
"By the way, actually I've got something to show you." cried Zaki excitedly.
"Okay, maybe we can talk at the cafeteria. I really need my coffee now." said Zaharah and they both headed towards the cafeteria. Zaki ordered two cups of latte with some puffs. Then after they took their seat, Zaki pass the seal letter to Zaharah. She look surprised and begins unsealing the envelope. Then she reads the content.
"Zaki...this is ..." utter Zaharah as she was speechless. "There's hope...I'm sure there is." said Zaharah with tears in her eyes.
