Canvas Thee Thoughts - Blinking Carousel
Chasing and racing with the trains, dancing while singing in the rain, hiding other kids shoes and sneakers and hoarding the candy shops, licking those lollipops... those were the things, the childhood memoirs of us...between me and Ezra. So long ago but unforgotten.
I've known him, Ezra when I was barely ten of age and he's two years my senior. There was some thing special and beautiful about him, upon that significant point of time. His cheerfulness, wit and his absolute charm. We met, in such turbulence manner on my part I presume. Me and my dad were queuing, while waiting for our turn for that carousel ride, when suddenly my eyes caught him, pickpocket someone's wallet. I turn petrified, but I remain silent and I couldn't explain what exact notion I was having at that moment. Suddenly his eyes glimpse upon me, with that sense of fear and guilt. I decides to look away and fighting hard not to be bothered too much. When suddenly, I heard shouts and hard beating coming from his direction. And true enough, to my dismay, he was caught red handed by another passerby. He was almost beaten up to a pulp, when my dad decides to intervene.
"Please sir..leave him alone. He's just a child.." state my dad earnestly.
"A child wouldn't be so daring enough as to steal .. what will become of him once he's all grown up? Only God knows.." replied the man that had almost lost his wallet to a kid.
"Yes true.. but have anyone of you ask, why does he needs to steal?" Asked my father, as he came nearer towards Ezra, with me following close next to him.
"Hungry.. so are both my mother and my little sister.." mutters Ezra coldly, as he swipe his bleeding cut lips.
"Miss...miss..." Whisper a familiar voice.
I woke in a terrifying and shocking notion.
"It's okay..." he said calmly as I look upon him and soon I realised, he was that same being from the elevator.
"What happen?" I asked as I place my hands upon my ringing temples.
"You've fainted, right after you opened this door, even before you could asked me who am I.." he replied with concerned note mark in his voice.
"What?" I mutters. "Ezra?" I stammered.
"Ezra?" He asked looking lost and kind of confused as he carefully held me up.
I felt like a true idiot with amounting shame enclosing my spirit. "Why are you here?" I asked. "We've meet and I feel so grateful ..." I stopped midway, as I peer towards the front poach where Ezra's car was supposed to be, but it was gone and I feel so glad with sparks of relief.
"I'm Habil..." he replied. "Someone must have call for a private nurse to look after Mr Aaron."
"Oh yes, it was me..I'm the one that had requested for a nurse.. and I thought it was supposed to be.." I said looking kind of doubtful.
"A lady?" He asked with a doting smile.
"Yeah.." I said meekly.
"I hope, it's not that disappointing ." he state.
"Oh no..not at all.." I said. "Please come on in.." I continues as I led him into my home. He followed me from behind as I walked him into my dad's room.
"Daddy, this is Habil..." I said softly, as I took his hand and bring it close to my face. Tears begins to well up in my eyes and I used all the courage not to let it fall. My dad's hand trembles lightly in between my grip as he was trying to wipe them away, off from my face.
"Hello sir.. I'm Habil.." he begins as he place his sling back upon the edge of the side table and pace closer next to my father.
"I've read through his report.." Utters Habil with his sight looking straight at my frail form. "He will walk again ... trust me." Continues Habil with that illumine smile of hope cast upon his looks.
"What's this?" Cried stern voice and indeed I'm not surprised cause it was Freda my step mum, barging inside my father's room with Leia.
"This is Habil...." I said. "He's a private nurse which I've called in to look after my dad.." I explained.
"A private nurse?" Asked Freda with a smirk. "And who's going to pay for his service? You?" Marked Freda mocking my effort.
"You don't need to worry about that... I've already settle part of the payment.." I state.
"Yes mam, I've received those payment yesterday... " mark Habil as he took his sling bag and dug through them, probably looking for those transaction receipt.
"Don't mind that.." intrude Freda with a darkening note of anger cast in her eyes, as she glared at me with hate and disgust. "I just want to see how far you can go with that mere salary of yours.. you cheap whore."
With those words being thrown unjustly at me, all I could do was blinking my warm tears away like a fool. And with that form, I ran out from my father's room and headed straight towards the basement where my room was situated, slamming shut the door right behind me. I sank on the floor with my back against the door as I continue to weep.
