Adam's Eye : Chapter Twenty-Seven

Zaharah was extremely quiet throughout their journey back home. She only drink few sips of water and refuses to eat anything. Adam becomes concern about this and no matter how he tries to coax Zaharah to take some light snacks, she refuse and give him the same reason that she was not hungry much to Adam's dismay. Zaki feel upset too but he just stay focus on his driving. After reaching their destination, Zaharah went straight to Ameena's home to pick up Aden as Zaki helps Adam opening their front door. Zaharah enters their home and brings Aden to his bed to pat him back to sleep.

"Adam, give her time alright. I'm sure with you and Aden around, she will get over this eventually." said Zaki encouraging Adam. "I've got to go now alright. I shall come by tommorow afternoon before I headed back home. Do call me if there's anything." continue Zaki as he pat Adam's shoulder.

"Thanks Zaki for all the trouble. We both really appreciate it alot." replied Adam.

"Hey..we are brothers remember..and Zaharah she's just like my little sis.." said Zaki before he walks towards his car and drove off.

With his white cane he phase around the house and look for Zaharah if she was in her room. He feel around the bed and the chairs but it was empty. Then he came to Aden and stroke his hair kissing his head as he left the room and headed towards the verandah. Slowly he crept by the porch and he knew Zaharah was there due to her sweet lavender frangrance.

"It's like a dejavu. He dissapear from my life..came back and then he's gone again..and what hurt me the most...this time..he disowing me for the mistakes which he did." cried Zaharah with anger in her tone. "Yah..he's just like our father...he's abusing me emotinally."

"Zaharah, maybe he's not ready yet to be accepted by us." replied Adam as he sat closer by Zaharah's side.

"I'm so sorry Adam..but I need to be alone. You must be tired due to that long wasted trip. Why don't you go to bed first." said Zaharah with her attention stay focus on the green hilly view which has been partly covered by the dark clouds. Adam let Zaharah's hand off and slowly he walks back towards the room tapping the white cane along the way. Zaharah was confused by Izaldeen changes...was it the guilt or was there something more. She closed her eyes trying to fight back her tears and then suddenly she feel bad for treating Adam that way. Fine..if that's what Izaldeen wants...disowning her..she still got others by her side. With a heavy heart she decides to close the previous chapters of her life with Izaldeen once and for all. Zaharah lock the verandah door and then she off the kitchen light. She walks slowly towards the bedroom and saw Adam was sleeping peacefully. Zaharah climb onto the bed and then she lay her head on Adam's chest. Adam woke up in startle without saying anything but then he held his arms and wrap around Zaharah's body. Zaharah look at Adam and touch his face..sweeping his falling fringe off his eyes. And then she drew her face closer to Adam and gently kisses his lips. Adam held on to her more closer and respond to her kisses and gently carressing her body. "I'm going to build a better future with you..." whispered Zaharah.

It's been a year since now and finally Adam's Eye had open up more than one branches due to Zaki's help and Zaharah's support. Now and then Adam was involved in conference meeting of their father's company. Ana was always busy volunterring at the ophanage and seldom gets home. Ana spirit feels more alife now as though a new breath has been given to her soul. Zaharah as usual an assistance for Adam's shop...taking orders...doing the accounts.

Until one day during one of the important meeting at their father's trading company, Zaki received a call. It was from the National Eye Centre. However, on that day Adam was not around at the office he was back in his hometown. Zaki was excited and close the meeting earlier much to the other stuffs surprised. Zaki quickly call Adam on his mobile.

"Adam, I shall be at your place later tonight. Please stay awake for me alright." cried Zaki excitedly.

"I can't promised you that." answered Adam jokingly.

"Oh come on. Your night won't be wasted once I arrived." continues Zaki as he chukkles.

"What's the excitement?' asked Adam curiously. "Are you getting married or is your girlfriend pregnant?' asked Adam again giggling away.

"Yah right...nice one bro..! You will find out once I'm there" cried Zaki and shakes his head as he hung up his mobile. "Somethings will never change."

Without wasting any more time, he took his car keys and drive straight home to pack some of his belongings. And then he saw the letter which the National Eye Centre had sent. He tore up the envelope to read the content. He almost shout out with joy as Adam will soon received his new retina cause they finally found a suitable donor for him. After finishing packing, he drove his car and headed towards Adam's home town. It was almost quater to two in the morning when he finally arrive at Adam's doorstep. Zaki knock on the door excitedly and Zaharah had to rush to open the door.

"Oh my..with that racking you bound to break it." exclaimed Zaharah praying hard that his knocking won't wakes Aden up.

"Zaharah, take a look at this." exclaimed Zaki as he handed the letter towards Zaharah's hand. Zaharah took the letter and begins to read it. Tears of joy wells in her eyes and she let them fall.

"Adam, our prayers has been answered." said Zaharah as she walks closer towards Adam who was looking confused and lost. "They have found the suitable donor for you. Soon you will be able to see again."

Adam sank on his chair and close his face with his hands and cries. "Thank You God"

And then he held on to Zaharah and kisses her cheeks. Slowly he rose up and walk towards Zaki and he gave him a hug. "Thanks Zaki...for everything." Zaki embrace his brother and he knew all has been forgotten and forgiven.

"Ehh..you can let go now..cause it's kind of creepy we both hugging on like this." cried Adam in between tears with a grin on his face. Zaki playfully pinch Adam's nose and they both had a good laugh much to Zaharah's joy.

The next day, Zaharah told few of her workers in their shop which they both had decided to hire to attend to the shop while they were gone. Next she begins to pack some of their belongings as all of them had plan it was the best for Zaharah and Aden to stay Adam's other house. Zaki makes several phonecalls too as he needs to know more details about the arrangement before the surgery. After everything was set, Zaki drove them home.

Three days had pass and it was the day for Adam's major eye surgery. Zaki plan to drive Adam towards the centre instead of the driver cause he feels that he need to be by Adam's side. Before Adam left he stay in the room with Zaharah. Zaharah felt heavy letting her husband go cause she was dying to go with them and stay by his side throughout the ordeal.

"I'll be gone for only a week." said Adam as he gently caress her hair and bring them closer to his nose. He breath in her sweet scent and close his eyes. "I will never forget this....! I love you so much Zaharah. Be strong..in whatever trials or turbulence might sets in that we might not known." continue Adam as he bring his face closer towards Zaharah's cheeks.

"Adam...please don't say that. Nothing will befall us again. I know." whispered Zaharah as she felt sudder upon hearing that sudden words from Adam.
"Remember me in your prayers Zaharah. I can't wait to see your sweet smile again." said Adam as he smile his darlie smile and then he turns solemn. Zaharah held on to him and she felt hard to let go. Then there was a knock on the door.

"Adam, it's time to go." said Zaki as he waiting outside the room. Adam wipes Zaharah's tears off her soft cheeks and then he run his fingers on her eyes, nose and lips. "For me to remember once I'm away." said Adam. Zaharah walks them towards the door with Aden in her arms. Adam kisses Aden's face and stroke his hair playfully. "Take care of mummy...young man." cried Adam. Aden watch Adam with full of wondering thoughts in his mind. Zaki help Adam towards the car and wave them goodbye before he drove off.

"Bye..daddy!" utter Aden. Zaharah stays on the gate until the car was out of her sight.

Adam could feel the cold needle being inserted in his vein on his hands. Zaki was by his side before the nurses pushes Adam's surgery trolley towards the operation theater. Zaki knew Adam was feeling nervous about this whole procedure and he keeps on reaasuring Adam that things will be okay cause..these surgeons are very professional. Zaki follows along as Adam being push into the theather until finally they had reach the boundary line that he had to wait outside. It was almost more than five hours now and occasionally, the nurses ran in and out of the room bringing in files and papers until finally the surgeon came out. Zaki stood up from his seat and waited anticipatingly for the surgeons remarks.

"Praise to God..all is done. Adam surgery was a success. In a week time he will be able to see the world again." said the surgeon and then he walks back towards the theather again.

Zaki could not contain his happiness and quickly call Zaharah on his mobile phone.

"Zaharah...all is well again..Adam has regain back his vision. Thank God." cried Zaki excitedly.

"Zaki...thank you so much. We could not have done this without you.' replied Zaharah with tears in her eyes.

"In two weeks time..we shall be back." said Zaki again before he hang up.

After one week, the surgeon and few nurses came by Adam's room with Zaki by his side. The surgeon then slowly beginning to open up Adam's bandange around his eyes.

"Alright...with a count of three,,open your eyes slowly. One, two, three.." said the surgeon. Adam slowly lift up his eye lids and he felt some sharp pain just like a needle has been poke through his eyes. "Relax..try again. One,two,three," continue the surgeon.

This time Adam tries again and the pain was quite bearable. And then he saw the dim light..slowly...beginning to register in his vision. Finally he open his eyes fully and he saw unknown faces....the doctor and nurses and then he saw Zaki.

"Zaki." he call out his name helding out his arm towards Zaki just like a small child. Zaki had tears in his eyes and walk straight towards Adam and sat on his kness infront of Adam. Adam reaches out his finger and begins touching his brother's face.

"I'm here..I'm here.." cried Zaki.

"Tell me this is real." asked Adam choking on his words. Zaki nodded several times reaasurance Adam's cause the surgeon had told Zaki earlier some of his patients reaction each time they regain back their vision. They were happy being able to see again but at times they can get emotional and confused about it. Zaki was glad Adam still be able to retain his beautiful brown eyes..cause it was only his retina which has been damaged. Adam stay in the hospital for almost two weeks and finally he was discharged.

"Zaharah..I'm coming back home." said Adam while talking to Zaharah on the phone. Zaki was busy focusing his driving but smile as he was so trill upon coming home and seeing Adam and Zaharah back together again.

"Praise to God. I shall wait for you Adam." cried Zaharah joyfully.

It was drizzling throughout their journey. Adam unwind the window shield and place his hands oustside the window as he wanted to feel the falling rain. The road was empty cause it was almost night time. And then he drew back his hands and look at the night sky and broke into a smile. He stared hard looking at the beautiful purplish cloud...letting the wind falls gently on his face. Zaki turns to look at Adam but then he decides to let Adam had his moment and continues to drive on. Suddenly, there's another car which had eventually drove the wrong side of the lane and headed straight towards their car. Zaki with all his might presses the break with his right feet..but as the road was slippery, the strong break had eventually cause their vehicle to skidded and overturn. The impact was great that the car sway across the bends and almost fall into the cliff of the dark sea below. Zaki felt some pain on his knees and arms but he was concern about Adam. To his dismay Adam was unconscious and his body was kept from falling off the cliff by the support of the car door on Adam's side.

"Adam wake up...bro..come on wake up." cried Zaki and with all his might he tries to pull Adam to his side as the car begins to jerk slowly towards the edge of the cliff. Adam arose from his concsioness and he was shock in the state that they are in. Adam look out and he knew they both bound to fall off the cliff with their vehicle.

"Adam give me your hand." cried Zaki as he held out his hand struggling with his own pain. Adam reach out his hand but then each of his movement cause the car to move futher towards the edge of the cliff. And to their horror, the door on Adam's side give away and cause Adam to be flung out from the car. Zaki forcefully, grab Adam with his left arm and with his right arm he tries to grab a broken branch which had piece through their window sill.

"Adam hang on...come on give me your other hand.." cried Zaki with all his might.

"No... we both will fall...." said Adam frantically. "You have to let go." said Adam with tears in his eyes.

"No....This time I'm not letting you go...not again. Adam come on give me your hand." plead Zaki.

Adam tries again but this time the car had move so much closer towards the edge and bound to fall into the water at any point of time.

"I'm sorry. Promised me..take good care of Zaharah and Aden...tell them to forgive me.." said Adam and to Zaki's horror..Adam let his hands slip away from his and he saw Adam fell into the deep sea and left without a trace.

"No..no..Adam...! Adam.." scream Zaki on top of his lungs. He kick open the other side of the door and struggle out from it..just in time before the whole car falls into the sea. Zaki limbs and shouted for Adam...and then he fall on his knees and weeps. His heart was shattered to million bits of pieces. He simply can't believe all this happen in just few seconds. And then his vision becomes blur and his lungs becomes heavy as he lose concsiousnees.

Zaki sat on the hospital chair at the emergency department with his hands covering his face.

"Zaki." that voice....he stood up and there she was Zaharah stood frooze on the ground. Suddenly Zaharah dash towards him and hit him on his face and chest. "How could you? Why did you let him go...how could you..he's my life..!" cried Zaharah with all her might. Zaki was speechless and held on to Zaharah's arm as he tries to calm her down. Zaharah soon calm down and Zaki hold on to her and let she cries all she wants. Suddenly Zaharah fainted much to Zaki's dismay.

Zaharah wakes up and found herself lying on the hospital bed with Zaki and Ana by her side.

"Adam." she cries as suddenly she recalls about that incident.

"Zaharah..please be strong....for your baby sake growing inside your womb now." said Ana tenderly caressing her hair. Ana had been in tearful state too.

"What? I'm pregnant...." cried Zaharah in dismay and lie back onto the bed and wept bitterly. Zaki stood up and walks out of the room as he can't bear to see all this happening again. Soon the police cane and ask several questions as they took statement from Zaki. They even took him to the scene again and to his dimay..all they could retrive is the damaged car but Adam's body was not found anywhere..even though the search rescue operation was carried out and the whole area has been seek but all was in vain.
