After paying the cab driver good amount of cash , Adam dig into his pocket for the house keys. After unlocking the front door, Adam went back to his luggage which he had place on the grass patch. He seems to be struggling with them uncertain which one to bring in first. Zaharah still holding on to her precious sarong bundle walk over to Adam and without saying any words she help him carry one of his luggage. Adam gave that wondering look again then without hesitation he carried the rest of his things into the house. As Zaharah stepped in, she was amazed about the size of the house. Even though part of the wall are made of wood and stone the size of the house is quite big. The roof is made of partial wood and metal zinc. There were three rooms altogether and the kitchen was build further end from the living room. It seems a family used to live in the house before because there seems to be furniture which has obviously been used. The previous owner had left a rattan living room set with a three doors two feet in height rattan cabinet where a radio set was left on it together with an old flower vase which looks like it really needs to be wipe. Adam walk further into one of the room and place all his luggage on the wooden floor. Zaharah followed from behind and place one of Adam’s luggage together with the rest.
“I guess this shall be our room. So what do you think?” asked Adam. He looks so excited just like a child who just received a candy.
“It’s up to you.” answered Zaharah in such a cold tone. She felt irritated with Adam’s gesture. It seems that everything he says and what ever he does she felt like a thorn in her skin. She seems to detest him but she was so unsure why she felt this way. So far Adam was just trying being nice to her but she just can’t accept him to be part of her life yet.
Zaharah scan the room. It had and old queen size bed together with two doors cupboard and a small side table with an old lamp place on it. An old mirror was found hanging on one side of the wall.
“Maybe you can place that on the bed?” asked Adam pointing the sarong bundle which Zaharah had held so tightly on her chest. Zaharah ignored him still carrying the bundle and leave the room walking cautiously towards the kitchen. She place her sarong bundle on the dining table while looking around the kitchen area.
“Good. There’s a nice cooking stove and a small sink in this kitchen.” Zaharah thought.
She smiled to herself for a moment when suddenly she heard a loud shriek came from the bedroom. Without hesitation Zaharah dashed towards the room and saw Adam was on the floor holding on to his leg. Then Zaharah saw a centipede crawling on the floor. Zaharah look frantically for something to hit it. She saw an old bundle of newspaper and grab some of it and began banging on to the insert until it became lifeless. After she felt sure the centipede is dead she quickly walk towards Adam and look to his injured leg. It looks that it has been stung by that centipede. Adam looked so much in pain by now. Zaharah ran back towards the kitchen and bring her sarong bundle in. She looks into the kitchen cabinet if there’s some old vinegar left. There were some unused sauce but she does not need those. She search for the vinegar high and low. She was breathing heavily now cause she felt worried for Adam. She tries not to have any feelings for him but now it seems she has to put her ego side away . Lucky enough she saw an old vinegar in a small glass bottle which was chuck so further in the cabinet. She grab it and ran back to the room. She unfold her sarong bundle and grab one of her old sarong and began tearing it into long strip. She looked at Adam and she knew he was in shocked cause he was sweating and he looked panic. Zaharah unscrew the vinegar bottle and began pouring the liquid onto Adam’s right feet which has the punctured mark. Next Zaharah began bandaging Adam’s feet with her old sarong. Until she felt sure her it was already secured she helped Adam onto the bed to lay him down. Adam looked at Zaharah like a loss puppy. He was confused by Zaharah’s gentle gesture when at first he could tell how much Zaharah hated to be near him.
“You should rest now.” Zaharah said even though no eye contact was given towards Adam.
